Hello everyone!

Just checking in to let you all know whats been going on in snowy Eau Claire since Tuesday!

Nothing particularly exciting, I'm still slacking with putting up my Halloween pictures, however it has started snowing as you can see in the video!

It's not settling yet except on cars but Winter has definately started this week!

I've had a movie watching weekend this weekend, I've been to see Changeling which was very good and yesterday I went to see Madagascar 2 which was a lot of fun! I watched a Finding Nemo last night and tonight I'm going to the cinema again to see a comedy called Role Models which looks pretty good.

After yesterdays movie I went to my first Ice Hockey game which was interesting! Really long and pretty dull apart from one fantastic punch up! Annie and I actually left half way through as we were really bored and the seats are incredibly uncomfortable!

Thats pretty much all the update from this weekend, I'm currently doing anything to avoid studying! I've done my internet Christmas shopping, watched the X Factor and written this, now I think I should try and get some work done!

Expect Halloween pictures soon!

Election Pictures!

Chillin' With the Democrats at the Holiday Inn!

Hello everyone!
Though it is late and definitely past my bedtime, I decided this blog needed to be put up with a sense of urgency!
Tonight was firstly one of the absolute highlights of my time here in Eau Claire, not to mention one of the most incredible experiences of my life!
I spent my afternoon today helping the Blugolds for Barack 'kanvasing' around the university and surrounding areas. This involved going and knocking on peoples doors to make sure they voted and if not making sure that they did.
The Blugolds for Barack were incredibly passionate and extremely well organised in their efforts which would have made it very difficult if they had to accept a defeat. Thankfully that didn't happen!
We went around dorms and people’s houses for a few hours which that late in the day wasn't too thrilling, but important nonetheless.
After we finished behaving like Jehovah’s Witnesses, we helped clear up the area in the centre of campus where students could go and get Obama posters, stickers etc and once that was done we all headed over to the Holiday Inn where the Eau Claire and Chippewa Counties Democrats were holding their watch party.
The watch party had in excess of 200 people there with free food and drinks and 2 huge projector screens. The atmosphere was indescribable. Though I didn’t really have much memory of past elections to compare this one to, it really didn’t matter as you could tell this one was different, historic and something really special to be a part of.
The event kicked off at 9 o clock before which we had drinks in the hotel bar where we befriended a lovely waiter from New York who served me a Cranberry Margherita! Whilst in the bar the first of the poll numbers started to come through and were looking promising. That said everyone was staying pretty numb and avoiding over excitement after what happened with Al Gore.
Once we got into the event the numbers slowly started looking stronger and stronger but still a lot of the key states hadn’t been announced so everyone was preparing for a very long and drawn out evening.
Then, out of nowhere there was a silence in the room, everyone looked to the screen where they saw that Obama had won 297 seats and after an initial shock we realised that at 10.20pm, hours before we predicted, Barack Obama had won the election.
What followed was truly incredible, the room erupted in cheers and screams, people hugging absolute strangers, elderly men and young students in tears as it slowly sunk in that Obama was the new President of the United States.
About 5 minutes later the screen cut to our watch party where a number of the local news channels were reporting. Following this, footage came of McCain officially conceding the election to Obama which lead to even more cheers (especially when we saw Palin crying)!
We heard then from Jeff Smith who had just found out he won his 3nd term in the 93rd Assembly District seat. As well as working hard to support Obama, the Blugolds for Barack put a huge focus on encouraging students to make sure to fill out their whole ticket and also vote for their State Representative. Jeff Smith is great and he spent a lot of time around campus talking to students, unlike his opponents who came by to drop off signs and leaflets for 5 minutes before leaving campus.
Jeff Smith was at the watch party and you can see my pictures with him, he was very friendly and clearly appreciated all the work students did to help with his campaign.
After Jeff made his acceptance speech at the watch party, Obama appeared at around 11pm in Chicago to make his acceptance speech.
It was a fantastic speech, once again leading to tears, I welled up too! As I’m sure you have all witnessed he is extremely charismatic and a great speaker, you take in every word he says.
He showed the reason he deserves to be the new President. There was a true sense of excitement and hope among all the people watching, marking tonight as not only a historic event but an event that will hopefully have just kick started a very exciting change here.
I now have to go to bed as I am shattered but I felt it was important to write this tonight while everything is fresh! I also have to go out mega early tomorrow to buy newspapers as I’m sure in a couple of decades they’ll be worth something.
I still have to blog about Halloween but it will be up in the next couple of days!
